1. Rhetoric

Rhetoric

A good speech consists of much more than trained voice and body language techniques. There is a common misconception about a misinterpreted study conducted by Albert Mehrabian, according to which body language has 55% effect, the voice 38% and the content only 7%. It’s not like that, as Mehrabian himself confirms. We know today that content, as well as other criteria, plays a far greater role than previously thought.

Therefore, you will learn

✓ what makes for an impressive dramatic composition
✓ how to secure the attention of your listeners with psychological mechanisms
✓ ethos: how to enhance your personal credibility
✓ pathos: how to reach the emotional world of your listeners
✓ logos: how to make your words more convincing
✓ which rhetorical devices you use to give your content power and expression
✓ how to reduce your fear of the speech &
✓ how to discover your own strengths and the fun of giving a presentation

Your benefit:

You know the steps you need to take to turn ideas into a successful speech with which you can feel comfortable and step out with confidence. Your listeners have more confidence in you and your content.

The content described refers to the basic course:

  • Rhetoric I: If completed successfully, the following steps are performed:
  • Rhetoric II: Advanced techniques, storytelling, rhetorical devices, dealing with questions &
  • Rhetoric III: Expert techniques, expert mastery of humour, spontaneity, dealing with criticalquestions through response techniques, applying it to your individual presentation

2. Negotiation

Negotiation

Negotiations range from political coalitions, to working and contractual conditions, to conflict situations, in which employees disagree with colleagues or clients when negotiating the next project. Closer to home, you also negotiate the price of a piece of clothing or the next holiday destination with your partner.

A negotiation is nothing more than a conversation in which the parties involved have competing positions and look for a common solution. On many occasions, such meetings are emotionally charged, which puts a strain on future business relationships. “My colleague is difficult.” These tensions cost employees energy and motivation, the company turnover. Very often, this results in compromises – a lose-lose-situation: both sides give up 50% of what they originally wanted.

Negotiation competence means

✓ to recognize the interests and motives of the other party
✓ to become aware of one‘s own interests and motives
✓ to determine a negotiation strategy
✓ to significantly influence the course of conversation
✓ to adapt the communication style to the counterpart
✓ to know and apply psychological mechanisms
✓ to shift power hierarchies
✓ to handle unfair techniques
✓ to positively influence the conversation atmosphere

Your benefit:

Those who can negotiate

✓ see ways out of opposing positions
✓ recognize the interests and motives of the counterpart
✓ know how to positively influence the situation
✓ convince with empathy instead of pressure
✓ strengthen long-term relationships

In addition, you will know how to find your own negotiation strategy and how to get others to trust you and your competence. You don’t need any previous knowledge and will leave the seminar with techniques that you can immediately put into practice.

3. Quick-witted yes – rude no

Quick-witted yes – rude no

We constantly try to convince: clients of our concepts, superiors and colleagues of our ideas, our partner of our plans for the evening. Many attempts to convince fail despite good arguments. What is preventing your counterpart from saying “Yes” to you and your suggestions? Marie-Theres Braun explains how to consciously change unconscious characteristics in conversation and voice and how to use them for yourself: Learn to convince without pressure based on empathy and to give a rapid, quick-witted response without “cutting the other short”. After all, you want to continue working together. This is a lecture with training elements which is fun and teaches methods that you can apply immediately.

You will learn

✓ the game of status
✓ personal resources for your personal mental strength
✓ the power of voice – expressive and coherent speech
✓ the power of language – the right word at the right time
✓ the art of overcoming failure – aspects of improvisational theater
✓ stereotypes and prejudices – back to the point!
✓ to recognise and defend against manipulation techniques
✓ argumentation management and question techniques
✓ the principle of appropriateness
✓ to control the nature and extent of your “quick-wittedness”

Your benefit:

You develop your individual strategy to deal with personal trigger points more confidently. You radiate more confidence and you know techniques that make you appear more eloquent to your counterpart. Your counterpart will perceive you as more relaxed.
